New Year, New Problems, New Host!

(Old post from January 12, 2021)

23 July 2021

So with the Google outage in early-mid December last year, my site going down, and all the sh*t that has happened this year... I'd figure it's a good time to start abandoning the Big Tech and to switch platforms (including my hosting for this site) so that I can continue to make more content and maybe even discuss new topics in this new year. I am now using Oracle Cloud, and their free tier will enable me to have greater reach with fewer restrictions! Oracle's Always Free Tier is even better than Google Cloud's as you get 10TB of network egress (instead of just 1GB limited to the US like GCP), as well as not just one... but two compute engines (with 1GB RAM instead of 640MB RAM) to use along with 100GB of disk space (50GB for each compute engine if you split it between them) which is more than triple the storage of GCP!

I'm hereby proud to announce that I am moving to LBRY/Odysee as my main video platform! I will also likely be using Bitchute, DLive, Gab, Parler (when they come back), and possibly some other Alt Tech (or as LBRY would say... Successor Tech) to resist censorship... and possibly gain better monetary support!

Many of us on YouTube, especially content creators all know that the platform has been in a downward spiral with the numerous anti-creator changes they have brought to the platform. Everything from allowing copyright claim abusers to game the system... to putting ads on smaller creators content (without paying them even a single penny for their work... or even just the general bugs like the subscription buttons and notifications failing to function properly have just made YouTube such a burden. Yet they now want to double up on ads, remove creators for BS reasons, and push the "You" out of YouTube with a huge effort to corporatize the platform to compete with TV. This is not what YouTube was supposed to be about, but damnit... if that's what they want, then this may be the year we see a worthy alternative come to play!

I have one last thing to say... If you are a content creator, and you value your freedom (no matter what party you side with) please consider switching to Alt Tech! Use platforms like LBRY/Odysee, Bitchute, Gab, Parler, DLive, ect. Because if you don't, then you'll just be feeding into Big Tech's monopoly more; which makes it possible for them to abuse their power, as well as set their own prices on the goods/services you use. Some of us already know what it's like when there's no competition; because of ISP/Cell Carrier monopolies, they are able to charge high prices and rip people off with terrible service (because there's no other option). This is the kind of future we are headed for if people don't speak up and fight back! Google, Amazon, Apple, and Twitter did not just ban Trump... they tried to kill the competition by banning Parler! Capitalism only works if there's competition to lower prices and fill the gaps in goods/services. That's just how our economic system works.
